A Lesson In The Jungle

Can it really be April already? Surely it was Christmas only yesterday. Does anybody know how to slow time down? It isn’t that I am not looking forward to coming to America in just two months, but that life seems to pass too quickly sometimes. 2016 has started well for me. Sadly, it hasn’t been the same for everybody. The world has been shaken by terrorist activities, continuing wars and famines. It’s important to remember that not everybody is as happy as we are at this very moment. If you are not happy at this moment then I wish you peace and love, and I hope your sadness will pass.

Personally, I feel as if I have reached a milestone this year – my first children’s book has been published, “A Lesson in the Jungle” is in book-form. It’s been a long time in the making, many years in fact. It didn’t start out as a book, but as a children’s theme theater manuscript.

It was back in 1996. I had just become a proud father to a wonderful little boy and my writing career hadn’t yet kicked off. I was working at a school, while at the same time, trying to come up with a fun idea for the children.  “A Lesson in the Jungle” became a huge success. Song texts were written and a young man named Martin helped me write the music. I had no idea when I wrote the manuscript just how much it would influence my life, or just how much joy it would give others for that matter.

I have lost count of how many times I set the show up in Europe. I first visited the United States of America in 2011, and America loved, “A Lesson in the Jungle” just as much as Europe did. But I think the goal was always to get it published in book-form. Last month that happened. Just last month, that is exactly what happened.

In a world that is fast shrinking, where animal habitats are dwindling and where certain species are falling close to extinction, it is so important we teach our young the value of life. Each mammal, each bird, fish, reptile and insect has a place and we are their future. “A Lesson in the Jungle” is an easy to read teaching aid, a journey with a lesson to learn.  A wonderful story with detailed illustrations creating a great tool for teaching a valuable lesson about preserving life within the animal kingdom.

Henrietta and Harvey arrive in Africa to capture wild animals to sell to a zoo. Two children, Jenny and John, want to save the animals and help them stay with their families. They are forced to seek the help of a magical witch doctor who not only rescues the animals, but teaches the hunters a valuable lesson about preserving life within the animal kingdom. Lesson learned, Henrietta and Harvey promise to return next year as well. Only this time they will arrive with a camera and respect for the animals of the jungle.

The preservation of life rests within the delicate hands of our children and we owe them the tools they will need to make this world a better place.

If you are interested in obtaining copies of … A Lesson in the Jungle you can find them on all online book stores, as well as through Jan- Carol Publishing and Rosie and me.

Until next time with more Sweet Conclusions,

Gavin
